Library Event: Social Security 101

April 4 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Social Security has provided financial protection to retirees, disabled persons and survivors since President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act in 1935. Today, 175 million people work and pay Social Security taxes and 62 million receive monthly benefits.

Learn everything you wanted to know about this social insurance program at:

  • 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, at the Deltona Regional Library, 2150 Eustace Ave.
  • 10 a.m. Thursday, April 4, at the Daytona Beach Regional Library, 105 E. Magnolia Ave.

Blanca Taylor, a public affairs specialist with the Social Security Administration, will explain how to estimate your retirement benefits, how to open a “my Social Security” account, and how to apply for benefits. A Q-and-A session will follow the presentation.

Account holders can view personalized estimates based on their earnings at www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount.

Registration is not required for the free presentations, which are part of Money Smart Week. The annual event is sponsored by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and the American Library Association to help consumers better manage their personal finances.
